Monthly Tips
January If you like Rhubarb now is the time to start forcing the rhubarb to grow, to do this use a rhubarb jar and you will have sweet pink stems. Start to sow Onion seeds in trays underneath glass, this will help the seeds to germinate ready for planting out in April. To grow beautiful lilys plant them in pots and protect them from the frost witha cloche.
February Prepare your vegetable beds by digging over the soil and add well rotted organic material. Sow broad beans, carrots, parsnips and onions uder cloche.Keep bird feeders topped up and bird baths free of ice.
March Cover prepared seed beds with fleece to warm soil ahead of sowing Place strawberry plants under cloches to encourage early fruits To ensure your lawn is at its best , apply a spring/summer feed for vigarous growth through the season Start to prune early spring flowering shrubs as soon as the blooms begin to fade.
